Josh is going into his first year of coaching public forum for the Brophy Speech and Debate team. He is a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the Marist School in Atlanta where he competed as a part of the speech and debate team for all of high school and was its president as a senior
Josh competed in a multitude of different events as a competitor and qualified to Nationals in public forum, congress, extemp, and dramatic interpretation. He broke at the Tournament of Champions in public forum and was ranked as high as fourth in the country in the event. Josh knows that participating in high school speech and debate changed his life. It made him more confident, sharpened his research skills, and taught him to work harder than he ever had before.
Josh believes that anyone can be successful in debate as long as they possess a great work ethic. His coaching philosophy is centered around attention to detail, mutual accountability, and respect for the activity. His goal is to make public forum an environment where everyone is encouraged to contribute regardless of their experience level. He hopes to help his students use debate as a tool to realize their potential, much in the same way it helped him.
