8th Grade Language Arts White
Hello, and welcome to 8th grade Language Arts White! This is a crucial year for developing strong reading, writing, and communications skills as students prepare for high school. In LA White, we will focus on non-fiction texts.
This year, we'll be exploring the exciting world of nonfiction, honing your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills along the way.
In class, we will focus on understanding how nonfiction texts are structured, how authors use evidence to support their claims, and how to evaluate the information presented. We will be working with a variety of nonfiction genres, including, but not limited to: biographies, autobiographies, essays, articles, and speeches. We will explore many interesting topics!
One of our main goals is to build connections with the non-fiction texts we read to the world around us. Through book talks, group work, independent reading, and whole class reading, we will develop our skills as critical thinkers and readers. We will also take time to be writers, speakers and listeners as we work to understand text.
I am excited to spend the school year with you!
