How brave do you have to be?
I haven’t looked at being a police officer as being brave. I have looked at it as a passion to help people.
Why do you like being a police officer?
I get a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction knowing that something I did that day may have helped someone or made them safer.
Did you have to go to college?
You don’t have to go to college, but if you do, you can become higher in rank (typical rank in the Sheriff’s Dept: Deputy -> Corporal -> Sergeant -> Lieutenant -> Captain -> Major -> Lieutenant Colonel -> Sheriff)
What is the best part about your job?
The best part of my job is the satisfaction of knowing I’ve done the best job I can do from day to day.
Do you have to be smart?
Yes because you have to make many important decisions daily to keep the community safe.
How do you become a police officer?
You apply at the police department that you wish to work for. If you are hired, they will send you to the police academy (police training school) which lasts from about 6 to 9 months.
