Volunteering at DTES

DTES Book Character Parade - Friday, 11/3/23

The purpose of Book Character Day is to celebrate literacy, our core values and our IB learner profiles. For families who do not celebrate Halloween, this day gives ALL students an opportunity to experience the power of imagination! Students and adults must choose characters that are either caring, curious and or risk-takers. Feel free to be creative with these costumes, but please no masks or scary characters. If a student is wearing a scary character or masks, they will be asked to remove it and wear regular clothing.

On each costume, students should use an index card to show which trait they are embodying. Students will write the word in big letters and be prepared to explain why they chose this word.

We don’t want you to be stressed, what you child wears can be simple, as long as there is a book associated with it. We encourage students to bring the book the character is from or a picture of the book. We will have a low key parade during the school day for our students.
