'Being a Refugee and a Dad' Dissemination Event

Monday 7 March 2022, Roskilde Universitet

10.00am-12.00pm Danish time (9.00am - 1.00am UK time)

As new, unfolding events and continuing disruption force people to flee countries and seek refuge, it is timely to examine how countries in the West have received/rejected and 'welcomed' those seeking safety and new lives.

The Oxford Network of Fatherhood Researchers invites scholars, students and stakeholders to an Open Lecture on:

Being a Refugee and a Dad: Lessons from Research in the UK, Sweden and Denmark

This event will present the findings from 3 research studies undertaken in Denmark, Sweden and the UK, which have explored men's experiences of Syrian refugee fatherhood.

In particular, the presentation will examine how the fathers navigate new family lives in different societal structures, against a backdrop of differing and changing policy commitments to refugee men and their families. Points of overlap between the three countries will be examined as well as points of divergence, along with methodological reflections on researching human experience in flux. What recommendations can be made from such research?

How to register

The event is free of charge but you need to sign up by 28 February 2022 to attend. You can either sign to participate on campus or on Zoom. After the open lecture, there will be a networking event on campus from 12:00-1:30pm. Lunch will be provided free of charge for attendees.
