I qualified as a Children's Nurse in 2007 having studied at the University of Southampton. During my time at Southampton I had a placement on the children's cancer ward and I quickly realised that this was an area that I was extremely passionate about. Since qualifying I have worked at 3 Principal Treatment Centres for Children's Cancer in the UK: Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. When I practised clinically I also developed a love for teaching and research, and I now work as a Senior Lecturer in Children's Nursing at Oxford Brookes University. As part of this role I teach pre-registration children's nursing students about children's cancer nursing, and about ethics and decision-making. In 2024, motivated by my passion for research around child and family health and wellbeing, I started work as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol.
In 2019 I enrolled as a PhD student and I completed this in 2024. My study offered me an opportunity to draw together my interest in research with my strong motivation for developing understanding about how families can be supported when a child has cancer.
