We are delighted to invite submissions for an edited volume, titled International Film Audiences - Industry and Academic Perspectives and expected to be published in 2021.

This publication takes place at a vital and controversial moment for film exhibition, where digital advancement and global pandemic measures prove disruptive catalysts for changes in the physical spaces of film consumption, distribution windows and viewing patterns. Now, more than ever, we need to take into account historical and contemporary audience developments, global and local specificities, big data analytics, individual experiences, the opinions of professionals and specialists in seeking sustainability and understanding change within the sector.

This edited collection of essays, industry reports and interviews aims to be inclusive in showcasing innovative audience and reception work and studies across the globe. Furthermore, the publication tries to bridge the divide between scholarly and professional engagement with film and media audiences and foster more opportunities for cross-section dialogues and exchange of know-how.

We are particularly interested in topics covering (but not exclusive to):

• Historical and contemporary perspectives on distribution, exhibition and film viewing;

• Under-represented geographical regions and audience segments;

• The impact of local and global political and economic factors on film-viewing habits and experiences;

• Digital growth, competition and perceptions of choice;

• Comparative approaches to audience and reception studies;

• Innovative methodologies and theoretical approaches;

• Crisis management, growth and sustainability strategies;

• Industry and research data;

• Professional opinion pieces and interviews with industry experts.

Because of the range of formats, we accept contributions between 3,000-6,000 words in length.

You will be notified of your acceptance by 3rd January 2021 and full contributions will be due by 1st June 2021.
