ERICA International Symposium and Networking Event

Hosted by the Children and Families Research Group, Oxford Brookes University

International delegates from the ERICA project were hosted by the Children and Families Research Group for a networking symposium and planning event at Oxford Brookes University on 4th and 5th July 2023.  Experienced and early career researchers shared their studies and research interests formally and continued these conversations over lunch.  ERICA project impact and future collaboration were explored in further sessions.

“It was such a lovely event – really supportive and interesting to hear about other work”

(PhD researcher).

This symposium brought international researchers alongside PhD and early career researchers in the research group to present their research to each other, share ideas, and forge new connections for alliances going forwards.

“The event was a wonderful opportunity to meet a range of international colleagues and share research interests and discuss possible future collaboration ideas”

(Post-doctoral researcher).

“The ERICA researchers were great at engaging with the PhD candidates and offering them advice and inspiration.  It enabled me to take a helicopter view of my studies and to see what is possible in the future, be that research or implementation ideas, and possible collaborations”

(PhD researcher).

The ERICA team (researchers from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Scotland, and England) includes members of the Children and Families Research Group. Across 2021-23; through a European Commission Rights, Equality and Citizenship grant; the ERICA team worked together to develop, pilot, evaluate and launch a pan-European training resource for threshold practitioners to identify and assess child maltreatment.  The Children and Families Research Group is a cross faculty group, with members at different stages in their research career.

“Brilliant event, feel very grateful for being part of it”

(PhD researcher).

Overview

The ERICA project is a collaboration between expert researchers and professionals across 7 countries.  In 2020-2021 the partners designed and evaluated the first pan-European training programme that equips nonspecialist threshold practitioners with knowledge and skills to prevent and detect child maltreatment.  As the project was undertaken during the pandemic the partners worked together online and the training was delivered virtually. The training materials were launched in an online generic, and country specific resource, in November 2021.  The resources are accessible here: ERICA resources.

The pan-European collaboration served to: establish international collaborative partnerships; develop evidence based training resources and a formally evaluated development, delivery and evaluation model; render available ongoing public availability of evaluated resources.  There has also been significant publication output from this project.

This event brings partners from the ERICA alliance across seven countries together for:
