The Analysis Modelling and Simulation CPD course offers a comprehensive introduction into the foundational principles, methodologies, and emerging technologies shaping the landscape of Modelling, and Simulation (M&S) in Defence contexts.
Divided into distinct sections, the course delves into key areas including the fundamental roles and applications of AMS, ethical and regulatory frameworks, methodology selection and adaptation with a focus on; Live Virtual and Constructive (LVC), AI and Digital Twins, the design and management of simulation models using a systems approach, and the exploration of various simulation technologies alongside hands-on exercises implementing AI techniques. Furthermore, the course delves into the future of M&S in Defence, emphasizing long-term impact considerations.
Through a blend of theoretical discussions, practical workshops, and interactive sessions, participants gain invaluable insights, and knowledge essential for effective decision-making, analysis, and training within Defence contexts.
Hybrid delivery: An online platform will provide suitable material such as lectures, literature, tasks and collaborative forums offering a peer-to-peer learning environment, and the ability to communicate with academic supervisors and industry mentors.
Benefits (the SO what):
Future-Oriented Skill Development: Learners gain exposure to AI-driven simulation techniques and digital twin architectures, to increase accuracy and speed of decision making through Human-Machine Teaming
Interdisciplinary Integration: The course offers insights into how to link data analytics and simulation environments, reinforcing systems thinking and computational modeling.
Operational Readiness: Trainees develop competencies in simulating complex, dynamic systems using AI-enhanced methods essential for roles such as; cyber operations, logistics planning, and systems engineering.
Application (the FOR what):
Defence and National Security: As highlighted in the Strategic Defence Review 2025, modernising Defence capabilities includes implementation of AI technologies to improve readiness, resilience, and decision-making capacity.
Digital Transformation of Industry: Digital twins are used across critical sectors (e.g., aerospace, energy, Defence) to optimise, predict, and simulate mission scenarios, making course content immediately applicable.
Policy and Planning Impact: The integration of AI and digital models supports rapid, evidence-based scenario planning (key for supporting governmental and military decisions in hybrid warfare and homeland Defence contexts).
Participants engage in a 5 Day Intensive (3 days in person and 2 days online). For CPD participants interested in gaining recognition for their learning, the provision of certificates of attendance can be used for Approved Prior Experience and Learning (APEL) if they wish to proceed with the short course. Those who wish to continue on the short course will only need to pay the remaining balance.
