The BAR-MAN study:
Exploring barriers to alcohol reduction in mid-life men
Researchers at Oxford Brookes University and University of Staffordshire are looking for men aged between 40-65 to act in an advisory role for a new research project.
Our project is focused on understanding motives for drinking and barriers and enablers to drinking less. We want to understand how we can support men who would like to make changes to their drinking habits.
We are particularly interested in hearing from men who regularly drink alcohol or from men who have recently reduced their use of alcohol.
What would being involved in the project entail?
The role involves attending three one-hour meetings over a period of 5-months from February-July 2025. These meetings will be held online and you will be paid £30.
You will work with researchers to help guide the research project. You will have input into how the project is managed and you will provide feedback on things like the information provided to participants. You will also help the research team to interpret the findings from the study.
