"The Stone in the Road" is a poem about unexpected good coming from a bad place. In the poem, Everett shows how a once hindering rock then saves a man's wagon from destruction. This poem is ironic because the problem that is introduced in the beginning becomes the solution by the end. People should not dismiss every unfortunate thing that comes their way, because sometimes evil works out for good as well. Having that perspective could save a lot of people from bad situations. The tone of this poem is anxious and relieving.
