Expectations

What You Can Expect From Us (Administration Team)

  • To do everything we can to support you, so you can do what is best for kids

  • Regularly ask for feedback and make adjustments to better serve you.

  • To be as transparent as possible

  • To hold staff accountable

  • To be a vault with information you trust us with

  • To be a resource for instruction and behavior management

  • To have fun and do everything we can to help you do the same

Classroom

  • Tier 1 Instruction needs to be well planned and designed to engage students at the level expressed in the TEKS.

  • Small group instruction needs to be planned based on student data and formative assessment. Use researched based resources to support your planning (LLI, MyPath, Reading and Writing Strategies, The Continuum.) All students can learn, we have to meet them where they are.

  • Students deserve clear expectations and routines. There do not need to be hidden rules that students don’t know. Be upfront about your expectations.

  • Find approaches that help students be successful, Not reasons why they can’t.

  • Create an environment in your room where your students know that smart is something you can get, not what you are.

  • Have a growth mindset/ equity with excellence!

  • Be enthusiastic in the classroom and beyond. Enthusiasm is contagious!

  • Your classroom should not be cluttered and should reflect a current learning environment. When you leave daily, your area should be tidy and ready for the next day. This includes the front office, library and pod areas.

Communication

  • You can all have a person on this campus that helps you work through issues. The minute you tell someone else you are gossiping. The minute you tell 3 or more people, you are bullying. As a campus we can't tolerate this.

  • When communicating with parents, keep the conversation positive. Parents need to know you care about their child, especially if you are calling about something that isn't great.

  • Share your concerns with the appropriate party – students, parents, other teachers, administrators, etc. Solve problems or concerns at the source. If you have a problem, propose a solution.

  • Keep parents informed of student progress and behavior! Student performance should not be a shock to parents.

  • Every parent should receive positive notes or calls about their child.

  • We are in charge of telling our story. Every conversation you have outside this building says something about our school.

  • When speaking to parents, don't use teacher terms!

Work Ethic

  • Be the best teacher you can be; always work toward improvement. Embrace professional development. If you don’t think learning more for yourself and your career is important, what message are you sending to your students?

  • Be prepared for team meetings and be on time...

  • Arrive on time each day and complete all duties and tasks, as assigned. If you are not going to be on time to a duty, it is your responsibility to let us know and get it covered.

  • Dress professionally. Jeans can be worn Fridays with a spirit shirt and Wednesdays with house colors. Other days are principal discretion.

Attitude

  • Accept the responsibility and challenge to raise student achievement; don’t blame others.

  • Have fun and laugh!

  • Be open-minded to change and to new ideas.

  • Have pride in your work and know there is no job more important than that of a teacher.

  • We must be the best team of sandcastle builders out there! E+R=O

Teamwork:

  • Support the other teachers and staff in the building. Be a team player.

  • Every person on this campus is responsible for the outcomes we achieve. If we all truly live by this contribution and respect each other, we can move mountains.

  • Support other activities in the school and district beyond your own area.

  • Collaborate with others for new ideas and solutions to current challenges. Draw support from those around you.

  • Look to understand and don't be quick to judge.

Professionalism:

  • Do not discuss students with anyone that does not have an educational need to know. Imagine if you walked up on someone talking about your child in this manner.

  • ***Do not let a child be surprised and embarrassed by calling them out directly in front of the entire class.***

  • ***Consider this, if you have a student who is not putting forth their best effort, embarrassing them is not going to encourage them to work harder. More likely than not, you just gave them an excuse not to work hard….because you don’t care. Please watch your comments, facial expressions, and body language when addressing ALL students. ***

  • It is extremely important that we conduct ourselves in a professional manner. Be aware that we have visitors everywhere on campus when you are discussing parents, students, or disciplining students.

  • Social Media- You are a representative of Brock ISD. Your comments and pictures are out there for others to see.

Student Discipline:

  • Do not yell at our kids.

  • Do not belittle our kids.

  • There is not a place for sarcasm with our kids.

  • Look beyond the behavior to understand what is really going on.

  • When students are in crisis, reach out for help. We will work together to figure out a plan that will support our students and you. We have gained a lot of resources that can help us be who we need to be for our kids.

  • Contact parents and attempt to solve problems at the classroom level before sending them to the office.

  • Teach and reteach classroom expectations, procedures and social contracts.

  • BE PROACTIVE!!! Contact all parents with good news about their child. Building those strong relationships will go a LONG way.

Lunch Bunch:

  • We will meet twice a week during the second half of your lunch hour.

  • This meeting is designed to focus on instruction.
