2022 Eastern Australia floods
23 Feb 2022 – 7 Apr 2022
The 2022 eastern Australia floods were one of the nation's worst recorded flood disasters with a series of floods that occurred from late February to early May in South East Queensland, the Wide Bay–Burnett and parts of coastal New South Wales
By the end of the first week in March, Southern Queensland and northern New South Wales (NSW) had each received more than a year’s worth of rainfall in a week. This was Queensland’s worst flooding since 2011.
An intense low-pressure system brought heavy rains to Australia’s east coast on March 30, forcing thousands to flee their homes for the second time within weeks.
Torrential downpours hit the east coast again on April 7, with Sydney receiving nearly a month’s rain overnight. Thousands of people were ordered to evacuate their homes. The first three months of 2022 brought a year’s worth of rain to Sydney.

Its has been and still is a lot of work to get this pub where we want. Everything had to go following the flood. We had a pub but that was it, no bar, no kitchen, no pool tables, and worst of all no taps. There was a lot of midnight sanding, family fights, money spent, and a few admittedly empty bottles of wine next to sleeping heads on the office desk. Its still coming together to become a place we are immensely proud of but its going to be a small forever project to keep up with the locals and visitors.
We wound not have been able to open if it wasn't for the locals encouragement and knocks on the windows mid renos to "please can I buy a stubbie and sit out the front". Those single cans and stubbies kept us a float during renos, covering the rent and letting us pay for more renos and most importantly - kegs.
Nat’s Coffee started back in 1998 as a school project that soon became a real life dream when the young Nat Byron decided to take his crazy business plan and embark on a new venture. Since those early days, Nat has learned every attribute of his trade the hard way, by being hands on in every part of the coffee industry. From farms growing his own organic beans through to harvesting, processing, roasting, operating and repairing coffee machines and even barista art, there is nothing Nat doesn’t know in coffee.

The passion project of Lismore locals Grant Smith and Andrew Newton. The Two Mates Taphouse story like so many others, they copped the full wrath of the Lismore floods. Being 11 metres above the river, they thought the taphouse was safe, but it wasn’t…
The unwavering support from the community saw locals rally around the gents, dedicating six months to helping clean every last waterlogged inch of their favourite watering hole. the flood shone a spotlight on the foundation of the Taphouse, true mateship.

As a Wardell local and living there at the time of the floods, Joshua saw the devastation of the floods in his own and surrounding Towns. Above all he saw the locals desire for a drink directly afterwards.
Following the floods Josh ended up living with Lynette, a bartender and ex security guard in Ballina/Byron Bay. Lynette saw the opportunity to Lease the business and Josh, with an impressive savings for his age, offered to fund the project if she could run it.
More than seeing it as a money grab, Josh wanted to help bring back cheap beers and cheap meals to those who needed it most. And we are working everyday to make sure those values stay.
