The Mathematics Passport is a personalised way for us to track and improve your child's mental maths skills. It makes it crystal clear what their next learning step is, ensuring they're always working at a level that is just right for them.
Think of the Maths Passport as a personalised maths journey! The targets are set up in a progressive way (like traveling through different "continents") to make sure the work is always appropriate and challenging for your child's current level.
Your child moves through the continents at their own pace. The ultimate aim is to help them develop instant recall skills for all the objectives. This means they are working toward knowing the answers instantly—not taking time to calculate them—to build a strong foundation for future math learning.
How to help at home
To support your child, we would ask that you spend a few minutes each day practising your child’s passport skills with them. This could be walking to school, in the car, at teatime, before bed – it does not need to be a sit down, formal time.
To help your child practice their current targets at home, follow these steps:
Find Your Child's Level: Hover your mouse over the 'continent' your child is currently working on found at the top of the page.
Practice Questions: You can either click on their current 'country' from the drop down menu and choose the 'Questions' button under the title or click the drop down arrow next to their current 'country', then select the 'Questions' option to begin practicing their target skills.
Check Answers: When they've finished, click the 'Answers' option on the 'country' page or from the drop down menu to let them mark their own work.
Take a Test: Choose the 'Practice Test' option to try a quiz similar to the one they will take in school found on either the 'country' page or the drop down menu.
Extra Help & Games: For online games and helpful teaching tips related to their next steps, select the 'How To Get There' option found at the bottom of the 'continent' drop down menu.
