KS5 Curriculum Guide
Message from the IB Team
At KS5, our students follow IB Diploma or IB Courses. We believe that this curriculum best prepares our students for success at university and in life beyond. The programme's focus on "international-mindedness" helps us to meet our school vision and mission to "develop students as positive global citizens who are equipped with skills, understanding and values to be able and willing to contribute to our world".
Whilst the IB Diploma Programme is academically challenging, it is designed to be a balanced programme of education which is holistic in nature. The development of the 10 "IB Learner Profile" attributes is a key aspect of the programme, highlighting the importance of nurturing character strengths such as curiosity, kindness and fairness, as well as developing knowledge and skills. Along with cognitive development, the Diploma programme is also concerned with students’ social, emotional and physical well-being. This aligns with BSM's well-being framework and our aim for "our students to flourish through being happy, healthy and capable of managing their own well-being".
We have been delivering the IB Diploma programme at BSM since 2003, and our results are consistently 5 points above the world average. As an IB team, we are proud to work with an experienced team of subject teachers, and together, we look forward to supporting our talented students to achieve their full potential.
This KS5 guide presents a summary of the IB Diploma programme and of subject options that we offer. We hope that the information within this guide will serve as a basis for discussions between students, parents, subject teachers and HE counselors, that help students make an informed choice as to the most appropriate programme of study for them.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
