The Structure of the Curriculum

The Full IB Diploma

Students taking the full IB Diploma must take 3 elements of the IB Core (EE, TOK, CAS) in addition to 6 subjects including one subject from each of the following groups:

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature

Group 2: Language Aquisition

Group 3: Individuals and Societies

Group 4: Sciences

Group 5: Mathematics

Group 6: The Arts

IB Courses

The full IB Diploma may not be the most appropriate programme of study for all students, in this case students may opt to take IB Courses instead. Students may take only particular DP subject courses or any of the core components (TOK, EE and CAS) of their choosing without needing to fulfil the requirements of the IB Diploma.

A student may take as many or as few DP courses as they wish as long as they ensure that they meet the requirements for the BSM High School Diploma

Higher Level Vs Standard Level Courses

Students will take 3 subjects at higher level (HL) and 3 subjects at standard level (SL).

HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level.

Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours. Higher level comprises 240 teaching hours.

At BSM we allow students to start with 4 HL subjects, however in January of Y12, they must decide which 3 subjects that they wish to pursue at HL.
