Curriculum Overview
Year 3
Year 3
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our new learning block! This term, Year 3 will be exploring the fascinating world of rivers, inspired by Amazing Rivers. Through our learning, children will discover how rivers shape landscapes, support communities and play an important role in the environment.
In English, pupils will develop their non-fiction writing skills, organising ideas into clear paragraphs and using persuasive language to create an information board encouraging people to care for our waterways. In Geography, they will learn about the water cycle, the journey of a river from source to mouth, and key river features, while locating major rivers around the world and making connections to rivers in Sri Lanka.
Alongside this, our PSHE focus will be on relationships, helping children develop positive friendships, understand family roles and responsibilities, and learn how to keep themselves safe, including online.
We are looking forward to a wonderful block of learning, where curiosity, respect for the environment and strong relationships will guide our journey.
Children have been allocated to either swimming or dance based on the preference indicated on the returned forms. Final allocations will be confirmed during Week 1 of Block 5.
Please note that pupils allocated to swimming are expected to participate fully in all sessions. If a child misses three swimming sessions, they will be reassigned to dance for the remainder of the term.
Thank you for your support in ensuring consistent participation.
Our aim remains to provide a safe, positive and stimulating environment where every child is encouraged to thrive and succeed. With your continued partnership, we are confident that this will be a productive and rewarding block filled with learning, discovery and personal growth.
We look forward to working closely with you over the coming weeks and celebrating the many successes your child will achieve in Block 5.
Warm regards,
Year 3 Team
