Curriculum Overview

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to block 5. This block, children will engage in a variety of adaptive activities, stories, songs, and outdoor experiences designed to inspire curiosity and support development across all areas of learning.

In Block 5, children will explore the story Clem and the Crab, using it as a way to discover new sounds, develop listening skills, and understand friendship and communication. Through shared reading, discussions, role play, and creative activities, they will sequence events, retell stories, and make marks to represent ideas, strengthening early literacy and language skills.

Maths and phonics will be gently introduced through playful experiences, such as counting shells, identifying shapes in nature, and exploring the first sounds of words using the Monster Phonics programme. These activities help build important foundations for reading, writing, and numeracy in a fun and engaging way.

Children will also enjoy creative arts, imaginative play, and outdoor exploration, supporting physical development, social skills, and emotional growth. Block 5 promises a term full of discovery, curiosity, and joyful learning, where children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and take an active role in their learning every day.
