Curriculum Overview
Year 6
Year 6
Dear Parents,
A very warm welcome to Year 6! We are delighted to begin this important and memorable stage of your child’s learning journey. Year 6 is a year of growth, challenge and opportunity, where students continue to strengthen the skills they have developed throughout Key Stage 2 while becoming increasingly independent, resilient and confident as they prepare for secondary school.
In Block 1, our focus will be on setting high expectations, developing positive learning habits and encouraging students to take greater ownership of their learning and progress. Across the curriculum, we will place a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking and reflective learning, helping every child to develop the skills and confidence they need to reach their full potential.
As part of their wider learning experiences across Blocks 1–4, students will have the opportunity to take part in both Swimming and Dance. In Block 1, 6A and 6C will have Swimming, while 6B and 6D will have Dance. The groups will alternate in the following blocks, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to experience both activities.
This block will be brought together through an exciting cross-curricular World War II theme, allowing students to make meaningful connections across History, English, Art, Drama, Dance and Music. Through exploring life during World War II, students will develop their historical understanding while using their creativity to respond to the experiences, stories and emotions of the time. They will have opportunities to write, perform, create, move and express their learning in a variety of ways, making the theme both engaging and memorable.
We are especially excited to celebrate the students’ learning at the end of the block with a special showcase assembly, where they will have the opportunity to share their knowledge, creativity and talents with an audience. This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to demonstrate not only what they have learned, but also the confidence, collaboration and independence they have developed throughout the block.
We are looking forward to an inspiring, exciting and productive term ahead. With your continued support and encouragement, we are confident that Year 6 will be a year filled with learning, achievement, creativity, growth and memorable experiences for all our students.
Warm regards,
The Year 6 Team
