Block 5 & 6 – Athletics / Health and Fitness
In this unit, pupils will improve their running, jumping, and throwing skills with more complex activities. They will participate in relay races, jumping challenges, and throwing for accuracy. Key Vocabulary: Runing, jumping, throwing, relay, accuracy, speed, distance.
In this unit, pupils will build on their understanding of health and fitness by learning about different types of exercises, the benefits of staying active, and making healthy food choices. They will engage in varied physical activities to develop strength, flexibility, and endurance. Key Vocabulary: Exercise, strength, flexibility, endurance, healthy food, active, fitness.
Pupils will follow the BSC Swim stage. These 8 stages are based on best practice from the England Swimming Association. Swimming and water safety instruction is a statutory requirement under the English National Curriculum for Physical Education with the aim of all pupils being able to swim 25m continuously, using a range of different strokes as well as being able to perform a self-rescue by the end of Year 6.
