Curriculum Overview

Dear Parents,

The first few weeks of Playgroup are a very special time as your child gets to know their new teachers, friends and classroom.

Our main focus will be helping children to feel happy, safe and confident at school, while gently introducing them to their new routines and surroundings.

Through lots of play, songs, stories and practical experiences, children will have opportunities to:

• Get to know their teachers and make new friends.

• Explore the classroom and discover where everything is.

• Become familiar with simple daily routines, such as snack time, tidy-up time and getting ready to play outside.

• Begin to express their feelings, needs and ideas.

• Develop independence by having a go at simple tasks for themselves.

• Enjoy lots of opportunities for movement and physical play.

• Build confidence through positive relationships and lots of encouragement.

Our focus will be on the Prime Areas of the EYFS – Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These important skills help children to feel secure and ready to learn.

We know that every child is unique and will settle in at their own pace. We will give your child the time, reassurance and encouragement they need to feel at home in their new environment.
