If a rower is unable to participate in an on-water trial or complete one of the required ergo tests due to medical reasons, their coach needs to inform the U19 Programme Manager by email. After doing so the coach should email exemptions@britishrowing.org and in doing so will automatically receive the link to the U19 exemption request form. For athletes aged 16 and over, this form should be completed by the athlete. For athletes aged under 16, this form must be completed by a parent/guardian.
Evidence should be provided in support of any exemption request and a link is available at the end of the form which allows the submission of this. Wherever possible, this should be a note signed by a doctor, physiotherapist, pharmacist, or school nurse/matron. In limited circumstances, another form of evidence may be accepted (e.g. if the exemption is required due to a positive COVID-19 test, a time-stamped photograph of the test).
The information provided in the request form, and supporting evidence, will be used by the GBRT medical team to review the exemption request. After which they will notify the U19 Programme Manager of the request and its outcome. If further information is needed, contact details will be requested via the rower's registered coach.
Not adhering to this requirement could lead to a rower being excluded from the next stage of the selection procedure or having their invitation to an U19 event revoked.
The U19 Selection Panels are not obliged to delay the selection process or give a rower special consideration because of illness or injury.
Email exemptions@britishrowing.org to request the form.
Please don't include medical information in the email. Details of why you need the exemption only need to be provided within the form.
You need to provide evidence supporting your request. This should be done using the link at the end of the form.
Evidence should be a note signed and dated by a doctor, physio or pharmacist specifying the nature of your illness/injury.
In very limited circumstances, another form of evidence may be accepted:
Example 1 - COVID-19 - time-stamped photo of test
Example 2 - bugs/colds that wouldn't need a doctor's appointment - a declaration may be provided by your coach confirming the requirement for an exemption
Evidence is needed to:
Verify your request
Give our medical team the information they need to assess your fitness to participate and if necessary, advise on how quickly you should be attempting to return to the trials process and the training required for it
Medical requests will be reviewed by the Chief Medical Officer or her nominee.
Requests for any other reason will be reviewed by the Director of Performance.
The request will be approved or rejected based on the information provided. In some cases, further information may be requested by the reviewer before approval can be given.
You will receive an email from exemptions@britishrowing.org to confirm if your request is accepted.
