Shakespeare

       All the World's a Stage

Year 3

We had a lot of fun during our Shakespeare theme.  Every child took part in a 'whoosh' session to help understand the story of Romeo and Juliet. This involved children acting as various characters from the play as an adapted version was read aloud. We have also been fortunate to work with Big Foot Arts Education who immersed our year group into the story in a very fun way!

Writing

To help us to understand the structure of a conflict story we learnt a story map using Talk for Writing. This means that we learnt our own version of Romeo and Juliet by heart. Reciting the story everyday out loud helped us to learn language features and the structure of a story so that we could borrow ideas for our own writing.

We also explored themes within the story and used hot-seating and conscience alleys to discuss the events and dilemmas faced by Romeo.

Here is a video of Nelson Class performing the Talk for Writing...

History

We worked in small groups to create a lesson to teach others all about the life of William Shakespeare. We started by searching for QR Codes hidden in the playground that revealed facts about him and then used Google Slides to make a lesson that we then presented to the whole class.

The presentations were excellent! Each group explored various Computing skills including editing the background colour, changing the font, inserting images and adding animations and put thought into what would be visually appealing.

Elizabethan Clothing

We did of course also have a lot of fun designing Elizabethan style outfits!

Art

In art we learnt about the famous artist, Salvador Dali.

We shared our thoughts about some of his more famous creations before producing our own Dali inspired art. We used watercolours to do a graded wash before adding details with art pencils and oil pastels.

We look forward to more Shakespeare related fun next year!
