Year 5
The Retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk!
Following our trip to the theatre to see Jack and the Beanstalk by Roald Dahl, we decided that for our showtime we would recreate the story and showcase Year 5's reimagined pantomime themed version of the famous fairytale. Each class showcased a phenomenal performance that humoured, entertained and captivated the audience. We partook in many rehearsals making sure that our performance was one that we enjoyed and embodied the Christmas spirit.
London Symphony Orchestra
As part of the London Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver had a wonderful time producing extraordinary music which inspired hearts and minds. This encouraged team building and developed their confidence in performing in front of an audience. During this time, expert conductors joined our Year 5 class and orchestrated an amazing performance!
Writing a script
In English, we have been working extremely hard on producing a screenplay based on Jack and the Beanstalk by Roald Dahl. We were able to learn the different features of a script, for example, an introduction, character list, stage directions, character actions and more. Our favourite part was using humour to create a script that was entertaining and allowed for children to be creative and use these different skills to create a wonderful piece of work.
Costumes and Props
We ordered outfits for our performance to capture the true essence of the cow from Jack and the beanstalk! Our student who played the cow had a very entertaining performance.
Our stage set-up took a very long time, we made a giant beanstalk with many, many leaves and we made a giant Grinch's face to replace the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk.
Rehearsals
We rehearsed our performance until we knew all of our lines perfectly. Safe to say, that the rehearsals were definitely worth it! The children had an amazing time watching each other perform and even gave each other acting advice...
Dance
At last we were ready to perform! We all did our best and gave a great big ROAR of a performance, filled with dance, music and acting. We even ran our own technicals - lights and sound effects - for the professional touch. No wonder our audience loved it so! The laughs, the energy and the entertainment was phenomenal and we were all so proud of them.
