Book Week

Year 1

During book week, we explored the picture book ‘The Word Collector’. In this story, the child collects words he has never heard of before and writes them down. This demonstrates his curiosity for learning new vocabulary. In the end, he gives his words away to the other children so that they can enjoy them as much as he did. Our Year 1 children discovered lots of new words by going on their own 'word hunt'.

On 8th September, we had our school book day. We had the opportunity to dress up as a word. Have a look at our costumes and guess what word we dressed as!

In Drama, we learnt some new words and acted out what they meant. Below, the children acted out the words 'diversity', 'puzzling' and 'energetic'.

Today, we created a scrapbook of some of the interesting words we have found in The Word Collector this week. Some of us wrote the word, others wrote the meaning and some of us drew what the word meant. We then stuck them into a class scrapbook for everyone to read.

In today’s lesson, we learnt to describe different sounds using onomatopoeia. We learnt what onomatopoeia is and how we use it to describe sounds. We then played different musical instruments independently, with our partners and then used onomatopoeia to describe the musical sounds.
