A Better World
Year 1
We considered the meaning of the word ‘better’. We then looked at examples of when something is made better or worse and discussed the reasons why. Finally, we related our ‘Qualities for Life’ to making both our school and the world better. Using this learning, we identified our moral and ethical obligation to help conserve and protect water of our planet. We explored the school to find some of the differnt ways that we use water.

In our Better World topic, the children have been learning about water and the world around us. The children learnt about the importance of water for humans, animals and the rest of the world. We looked at the negative effects of polluted and dirty water. In addition to this, we learnt about the water cycle where we understood the process of where water comes from. We explored the local area and learnt to take photos of ourselves and our friends by polluted water.

Science
Today we learnt about the different stages of the water cycle. We learnt how sunshine evaporates water and that when the vapours cool, they fall back to earth as rain, snow and hail. We then used drama to show the different stages of the water cycle.
Fundraising
We raised money for Joy for Humanity, a charity in Uganda who are working with schools to provide flushing toilets and running water to the school site. To raise money we raised sponsorship for a fun run and made some bracelets. Thanks to all of your support we raised £337.71 - More than any other year group. Thank you so much for all of your support!
