We Are What We Eat

Nursery

The Nursery children loved this topic and had a lot of fun learning about health, and healthy eating in particular. We first looked at what 'healthy' means for a person, including body and mind. We created a mind map of what we need to be healthy, and talked about food and drinks we consume, washing hands, brushing our teeth and exercise. We also started a short daily meditation practice, and talked about learning and reading and how it develops our mind.  We read the stories Oliver's Vegetables; Eat Your Greens, Goldilocks; T-Veg, The Carrot Crunching Dinosaur; The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brush Your Teeth With Max and Millie; Whiffy Wilson, the Wolf Who Wouldn't Wash.

Healthy Food

The children enjoyed trying many vegetables, reading stories about fruits and vegetables growing in gardens. We also learned about how vegetables have an effect on our bodies, and support our muscles, eyes, or heart.

Exercise

The children loved eating beetroot and spinach to help their muscles grow! But they also exercised a lot during this topic. We challenged ourselves and climbed on the big children's climbing frame, using our balancing and coordination skills.

The children also talked a lot about the impact of exercise on our bodies, and made sure they drink a lot afterwards.

Hygiene

We learned about germs on our hands and oral hygiene and brushing our teeth for a whole week. We practised washing hands,  brushing our teeth, played an online game where we got to brush a monster's dirty teeth, and role played being dentists for each other.

Chinese New Year

The children really enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year celebrations, and did lots of art work that related to the Chinese culture. We read the story The Magic Paintbrush and The Runaway Wok, and we loved role playing in the Chinese restaurant corner.

Artist of the Week

Each week we introduced the children to a new artist and focused on either their art in general, or a technique they used in a specific piece.  The children really loved this exploration, and eagerly wait every week whose painting or art work we will be taking a closer look at. Some fabulous pieces were created, as the children had a go at creating their own versions.  This term, we focused on Romer Britto, Vassily Kandinsky, Georgia O'Keeffee, Jackson Pollock, Lucy Arnold and Yayoi Kusama.
