We also used this as an opportunity to pose questions that we wanted to investigate over the coming weeks.

Measuring Sound
Measuring Sound
To start our investigations into Sound we first set about measuring sounds around the school to see which areas were the loudest(Reception). We then started to test musical instruments to see which can make the loudest sounds. Is it the wind instruments or the strings?

Investigating pitch/frequency
Investigating pitch/frequency
In this lesson we looked at how the frequency (pitch) is changed by holding the strings at different lengths. We recorded our finding by also looking at the difference in decibels. However, we noted in our fair testing that there may have been some noisy children interfering!!
Our Rock Band!
Our Rock Band!
Towards the end of the topic we put everything we learned about sound and how it travels into the designing and making of our very own musical instruments. We choose to focus on strings, wind and percussion instruments to demonstrate our learning.
We also created Flipgrid videos showing how our instruments work.
