Active  Planet

Year 3

Models of the Earth

As part of our home-learning task, Year 3 children  were set the challenge of creating a 3-D model representing the layers of the planet.  We have been blown away by the incredible amount of detail, care and precision that has been put into these fabulous pieces. Here is a small selection of some of the models shared.

Model volcanoes

The children spent some time planning and designing models of volcanoes with their peers. The children combined a variety of materials including a bottle, tissue paper, newspaper and glue to create their volcanoes and had a lot of fun doing so!

In Science we learnt about the rock cycle. In order to do this we needed to compare and group different rocks based on their appearance and physical properties. We had the opportunity to observe a variety of rocks and discuss their features and then group the rocks according to the diffenent features that could be seen. Below are some examples of the amazing work produced by the children.

To further develop our understanding of the rock cycle, we learnt about how fossils are formed. We were given the opportunity to identify fossilised animals and learnt how fossils are formed. From this information we were able to make sensible predictions about which animals may become fossils in the future. We were then able to create replica fossils of our own using clay. We thought about the types of animals or plants that may become fossils and ensured that we thought carefully about the image that would be left in the fossil. Below are some pictures of the amazing work created.

English

During our Guided Reading lessons we have enjoyed reading Billy and the Minpins. We used characters and ideas from the story to write our own stories. Here are a small sample of the children's stories.

RE

During our weekly RE lessons children have enjoyed learning about Jewish beliefs at home and in the synagogue. We learnt about special festivals including Sukkot and Rosh Hashanah and also found out about day to day routines. Here are some of the posters children made about shabbat, the Jewish day of rest.
