NOTE TO PARENTS: To reinforce use of courtesy words of "Thank you" and "You're welcome", a commercially purchased Mexican cookie (similar to an animal cracker) is given to the students. Emphasis is given to the classroom teacher to insure that a water break is given soon there after to wash sugar off of the teeth of the child. Please make clear to the school or classroom teacher whether this cookie is appropriate to any allergy or dietary considerations.

The "cookie conversation" goes as follows:

Teacher: I have a cookie for you. Yo tengo una galleta para ti. (yoh tane goh oo nah guy yate tah pah rah tee)

Student: For me? ¿Para mi? (pah rah mee)

Teacher: Yes, for you. Sí, para ti. (see pah rah tee)

Student: Thank you! ¡Gracias! (grah see ahs)

Teacher: You're welcome! ¡De nada! (day nah dah)

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: Students will follow the Bristow Public Schools student rules & procedures as listed in the student handbook. In addition, they are expected to abide by my specific classroom policies and procedures.

RULES:

Be prompt & be ready.

No food or drinks in the classroom; no gum smacking or blowing bubbles.

Clean up after yourselves.

Do not use offensive or foul language. The teacher decides what is offensive.

Respect authority, classmates, & personal property.

No blurting out. No interrupting. Do not talk while the teacher is talking, while someone else is talking, or while there is a guest in the room.

Bullying will not be tolerated.

Work hard AND think for yourself!

CONTAMINATING THE AIR WITH FRAGRANCES, DEODORANTS, OR BODY SMELLS WILL RESULT IN CONSEQUENCE AND PARENTAL NOTIFICATION.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES, POLICIES, & EXPECTATIONS

When you walk into the classroom, you will walk in quietly & appropriately.

When you walk in, you should immediately make sure your pencil is sharpened and then get started on the assignment that is on the board. You do NOT walk in and wander around the room or chit chat with buddies.

Students will be expected to properly dispose of gum and no smacking or popping or blowing bubbles is allowed.

Students are NOT allowed to write on my board, stand at my podium, sit in my chair, or come around to my desk or pick things up off my desk at any time. It is disrespectful.

Students will raise their hand to speak.

Students will NOT throw pencils, books, or other items across the room or to another student.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get all missing work or notes, NOT MINE. Daily assignments will be posted in the classroom and any worksheets that were passed out will be available in the “rainbow.”

If you are not in your seat and working when the bell rings, you will be counted tardy. Simply being in the room is not good enough.

No one may get out of seat with out permission.

I will dismiss you, not the bell.

If you have trash, hang on to it until the end of the hour, then throw it away.

All assignments will have a proper heading: First & Last name, date, hour, title of assignment. Furthermore, sloppy work will not be accepted (i.e. ripped edges, folded a millions times over, or stained).

There is no tray or basket for turning in work. If the assignment is not turned in electronically, then I will personally collect all assignments due. This way, I know exactly who has done their work and who hasn’t.

If you don’t have your homework at the moment I ask for it, then you will sign the Discipline Book.

DO NOT lay your work on my desk or give it to me while I’m teaching.

You have the number of days you were absent to complete all make-up work.

I post grades once a week. Students need to check their own grades. I will NOT print off individual grades for students.

Students may NOT work on assignments from other classes unless they ask me first. If a student is caught working on assignments from another class, I will take it away and the student will have to sign the Discipline Book.

You can redo most assignments & tests, but ONLY if you come in for extra help or tutoring BEFORE redoing it, and you must schedule a time in advance to come in and redo it.

A student who receives a “No Grade” will have a zero in the gradebook for that assignment until it is redone. The “No Grade” policy is posted in the classroom.

Students may NOT write in colored ink or colored pencil, only blue or black, and, of course, #2 pencil.

I do not allow any bathroom breaks or hall passes.

CONSEQUENCES

A student may be asked to sign the Discipline Book for any number of minor infractions, but the following is a list of the most common:

Blurting out

No homework

No supplies

The first time a student signs the discipline book, it is considered a warning.

The 2nd time a student signs the discipline book, he is given a day of detention.

The 3rd time a student signs the discipline book, he is given 2 days of detention & I contact a parent/guardian.

The 4th time, and any time after that, a student signs the discipline book, he is immediately sent to the office with an “Administrative Referral.”

If a student is being disruptive and is keeping any other student from learning or keeping me from teaching, then I will send that student out of my class. The student will be responsible for any work he/she missed while being absent from the room.

Any student who shows any amount of disrespect to any of my substitutes will be immediately sent to the office with an “Administrative Referral.”

SERIOUS INFRACTIONS, SUCH AS CHEATING AND VIOLENCE,

WILL BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY BY ADMINISTRATION
