My name is Mrs. Welsh. This is my 9th year teaching at Harry S Truman High School and my 12th year in the career. I am very excited to be here. I was born in North Jersey, and moved to Pennsylvania when I was eleven years old. I attended Council Rock High School South in Bucks County -- (I promise you I am a Tiger now!). I then commuted to college and graduated from Arcadia University in 2012 with a degree in History. I also minored in Secondary Education and International Studies. In 2014, I began my teaching career at Springfield High School in Delaware County and transitioned to Truman High School in 2017. In the summer of 2015, I earned my master's degree in History from La Salle University. Additionally, I finished my coursework to earn my master's degree in Education from Villanova University. I do have a teaching endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two sons, and our chocolate lab. We love hanging out with family and friends. I also have a passion for traveling! It is my goal to one day visit every single state in the U.S. Currently, I have traveled to 26/50! I also enjoy traveling abroad, as well. I've been lucky enough to have traveled to Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Scotland, Australia, Honduras, Belize, Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Spain, France, and Italy. I hope to add to my list of travels soon!
I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was little, and have also always had a passion for history. I believe that education is the key to success for young adults. As a teacher, I hope to motivate students in finding their inner strengths and abilities and discovering what truly inspires them. I am confident I can provide not only a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to ask questions and make their own opinions, but also foster confidence in order for students to realize their full potential. I promise that the skills you learn in my class will help prepare you for your future plans, whether it be a career or college.
Through my teaching experience, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that the more student-centered activities there are, students will not only retain the information longer, but also will be more confident in their abilities. Building strong relationships with my students is a top priority in order to make students more suitable and comfortable in their unique learning environments and situations. Believing in these two key approaches of teaching has confirmed that I have made the right choice in career for myself. I enjoy working with young adults and I will continue to strive to be a positive role model in your lives and bring history to life! I love my students and I love being part of the Bristol Township community.
