Mrs. Kaebisch- Social Studies

Welcome to 5th grade!! My name is Nicole Kaebisch, and I will be the 5th grade Social Studies Teacher! We will also integrate the non-fiction reading and writing skills as we explore the social studies content.

I am married to my husband, Ricky. We have three amazing children and a sweet rescued dog, Sky. My oldest son's name is Rilye (22) who graduated this year from UW-Stevens Point and is currently a Sheriff's Deputy living in Juneau County. My daughter, Ella (20) attends Concordia University where she is studying to be an occupational therapist. My youngest son is Reid (13) and he is in 8th grade at Bristol School.

I enjoy spending time with my family on the lake. I also love to watch my kids play volleyball and lacrosse and spend time with my extended family in Tomah, Wisconsin.

I have worked with children in a variety of settings for over 20 years. I was fortunate to be a military spouse for 20 years and travel throughout the United States which allowed me many diverse experiences in working with students and families. My work has included social work, managing a youth program, intervention specialist, and teaching. I have been a classroom teacher in Wisconsin for 8 years teaching 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades. I am so excited to be in 5th grade Social Studies and help each student develop a love of reading and learning. I attended the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse, Chapman University and Trinity International University.

In our classroom it is important that we develop a safe community where everyone is valued and continue to grow a love of learning. Respect and kindness are priorities in our classroom. I strive to find each student’s strengths and help them build upon their strengths. We work together to support each other and build positive classroom communities showing respect and kindness to one another.

Mrs. VandeHei - ELA

Welcome to 5th grade!! My name is Tara VandeHei, and I will be the 5th grade English Language Arts Teacher! My class will cover fiction reading skills, narrative and opinion writing, as well as grammar and language skills. I am passionate about teaching ELA, though my favorite part of my job is finding books that get kids excited about reading.

I am happily married to my husband Joe. We have two wonderful children and an adorable dog, Josie. My son's name is Brandon (23). He graduated last year from UW-LaCrosse and is currently an accountant living in Madison. Brooklyn (21) is playing volleyball on scholarship in West Palm Beach, Florida with a major in sports management.

When I'm not grading papers or planning lessons, you can find me watching my daughter playing volleyball, playing golf, or I'm curled up reading a good book. My husband and I also enjoy traveling to warm places.

This will be my 26th year teaching. I have been at Bristol School for 20 years. Prior to Bristol I worked in the Milwaukee Public School system at Maryland Ave. School. I have a masters degree from UW-LaCrosse in Education and Professional Development with an emphasis on Differentiated Instruction. Through my years of teaching, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th , and 5th grades. I have finally landed in 5th grade focusing on the subject I am passionate about which is reading and writing.

In this classroom, I value each child's ideas, thoughts, and actions. Everyone has unique talents and strengths that I can't wait for them to share with their classmates. We will be spending a lot of time together, so it is important that we treat each other with respect, kindness, and compassion. I know that each child is unique, so that means we each think and learn differently. It is my job as your child's teacher to help each student grow as a learner and person of good character.

Mrs. Birch - Science

Welcome to a new school year at Bristol School! I am looking forward to an exciting year of expanding students’ knowledge of scientific concepts, enhancing their inquiry skills, and engaging in learning labs.

During my thirty years, (WOW), with Bristol School, I have served as a first, second, fourth, and fifth grade teacher. I received my undergraduate degree from UW-Parkside in psychology and teaching. My master's degree I earned from Silver Lake College.

I am happily married to Dave and we have two daughters, Emily (28) and Leah (24). Emily works for Grainger and Leah is a lawyer working for a firm in Elkhorn.

During my free time, you will find me out on the golf course with my husband and friends. I also enjoy biking and staying physically fit.

I will be implementing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The NGSS are performance expectations for students that include three different dimensions of science learning: 1) Science and Engineering Practices, 2) Disciplinary Core Ideas, and 3) Crosscutting Concepts.

There will be many lab investigations this year. In line with NGSS, we will also be incorporating engineering activities into our instruction. Along with lab investigations we will learn, grow, and succeed in solving real world problems with the assistance from PLTW (Project Lead the Way).

I love working with my students and challenging them to be the best they can be socially, intellectually and emotionally.

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

Mr. Gardina - Math

Welcome to fifth grade math!!! My name is Jordan Gardina and I am your child's fifth grade math teacher. Fifth grade math covers 1) Operations and Algebraic Thinking 2) Operations in Base Ten 3) Fractions 4) Geometry 5) Measurement and Data. We are going to have a lot of fun this school year with our Big Ideas Math and Khan Academy programs.

This school year will be my 22nd year at Bristol School and my 26th year overall. This will be my 8th year teaching 5th grade math. I earned my undergraduate degree from UW- Oshkosh and my master's degree from Cardinal Stritch University.

I am married to Kerrie and the father of Natalie, Izzy, and Vinny. Natalie is a sophomore at UW-Madison, Izzy is a senior in high school and Vinny is a sophomore in high school. I enjoy spending time with my family, running, and fishing. I'd rather be outdoors than in.

My goal is to partner with students and parents in exploring and understanding the world of math. Not every person learned to ride a bike on the same day, and not every student will learn the math skill / concept at the same time, but we WILL learn them!!
