Brilliant Detroit is partnering with two organizations to offer one-on-one tutoring in reading for families in the Detroit area. Center for Success & Book Nook are wonderful programs that have proven success in helping to increase reading up to several levels. Each offers multiple times and days for tutoring. Each participant will receive 2 days of one-one-one tutoring a week. If you are interested in tutoring daily feel free to sign up for both.

Center for Success Tutoring - one-on-one literacy mentoring

Brilliant Detroit is partnering with the Center for Success to offer literacy tutoring for students K-3. In light of the COVID-19 crisis, we have cancelled all in person tutoring and are now offering virtual tutoring. We offer tutoring virtually at 3:55pm, 4:50pm and 5:45pm Monday-Thursday. Each session lasts for 40 minutes. Students attend the program at the same time on alternating days. For example, you would come at 4:50pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The summer session of Center for Success tutoring will run from July 6th until August 13th.

During sessions, mentors work one-on-one with students, reading books, engaging in literacy through debate and improv, and playing literacy games. This program has been shown to effectively increase reading levels by almost 2.5 grades each year! To participate in the program, you must have a device that is able to use Zoom (computer (preferred), tablet (preferred), smart phone)

Free BookNook Literacy Tutoring for Detroit Students!

BookNook has partnered with Brilliant Detroit to offer free remote literacy tutoring two times a week to students this summer!

BookNook is a web-based application where students can participate in one-on-one tutoring through the internet. Students connect with a tutor through a video call and use BookNook to read a book and engage in literacy activities and games. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade will experience fun, interactive phonics and comprehension lessons while also connecting with a caring adult tutor.

For families who wish to have their student(s) participate, they must have access to wifi and a BookNook compatible device (laptop, chromebook, ipad or tablet - not a phone). We also request your student commits to participate in two, 30 minute literacy lessons each week.
