A Community School is the heart of the community, bringing together educators, families, and local partners to help every student thrive. As a California State-Recognized Community School, we are committed to supporting the unique needs of our students and families through collaboration, care, and connection. This site was created to share resources, programs, and opportunities that help our families stay informed, supported, and engaged—because when our community thrives, our students thrive.
Family Resources
Our Community School works to remove barriers to learning by connecting families with meaningful supports. Explore the resources below to find assistance and programs that strengthen the well-being of our school community.
Family Partnership Opportunities
At Valor Academy Elementary School, we believe that strong family partnerships are the foundation of student success. The following opportunities are available throughout the year for families to connect, contribute, and grow alongside our school community.
The School Site Council (SSC) and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) are groups of parents, caregivers, and school staff who work together to support all students at our school. SSC members review and help make decisions about the school’s academic plan and budget, giving families a voice in shaping school priorities. ELAC members focus on supporting multilingual learners by learning about English language programs, sharing feedback, and helping guide decisions that impact these students.
How to Participate:
All families are welcome to attend SSC/ELAC meetings. If you’re interested in becoming a voting member, please contact the school office for more information. All meetings are held virtually on Zoom at 3:30 PM. Click on the meeting date below to join.

The Parent Ambassador Program is a leadership and volunteer group made up of dedicated parents and caregivers who help strengthen our school community. As ambassadors, families provide feedback to the school, support event planning, and help create a welcoming, inclusive school culture. From organizing the annual Culture Fair to helping with staff appreciation events and student celebrations, Parent Ambassadors play a vital role in bringing our community together.
How to Participate:
To become a Parent Ambassador, families must complete an application and provide proof of a current TB test. Parent Ambassadors are also expected to participate in at least 75% of the monthly meetings to remain active in the program.
Our Parent Volunteer Program is a wonderful way for families to stay connected and make a meaningful impact at our school. Volunteers support in a variety of ways, including helping in classrooms, assisting with events, supervising activities, preparing materials, or participating in special projects that benefit students, staff, and the school community.
How to Become a Volunteer:
To volunteer on campus, parents and caregivers must complete the following steps:
Volunteer Application
Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement
Copy of your ID
TB Test (if interacting with students)
Live Scan (if supervising students on your own)
Once cleared, volunteers can support in classrooms, at events, and in many other ways throughout the school year.
Sample Volunteer Opportunities:
There are many ways families can support our school community as volunteers. Some examples include:
Chaperoning field trips
Reading to students in classrooms
Assisting with classroom activities and projects
Preparing classroom materials or organizing supplies
Assisting with school events
No matter how big or small the task, every volunteer makes a difference in helping our school thrive.
