After studying Music at the University of Sussex, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Mike embarked on a successful teaching and performing career. He has taught in primary, secondary and special schools, and enjoys supporting younger pupils to take their first steps in playing the drums just as much as successfully preparing older students for entry to university and music colleges.
Mike has performed extensively in bands and orchestras, as well as being an experienced conductor of youth percussion ensembles. Ensembles he has conducted have undertaken European tours as well as performing closer to home at the Brighton Centre, Glyndebourne, the Royal College of Music and the Southbank Centre.
Pupils achieve best when they are fully engaged in what they are learning. For some this will be learning the drum parts of their favourite songs or developing the skills to play in a band, whilst others may want to achieve accreditation through taking exams. These are all equally valid progression routes for learners to enjoy the experience and excitement of playing drums and percussion.
