Part-Time Open Enrollment
Description: PTOE (Part-Time Open Enrollment) offers eligible high school students an opportunity to take up to two classes at the same time at a non-resident Wisconsin public high school. MAPS (Merrill Area Public Schools) is considered our students' RESIDENT DISTRICT/DISTRICT OF ATTENDANCE. Credits and grades earned through PTOE are counted toward Bridges Virtual Academy enrollment and included on the student's high school transcript.
Audience: Grades 9 through 12
Participating Institutions: Wisconsin public high schools
Course Formats: On-campus or online (availability will vary between institutions)
Costs: $510 will be deducted from the student's BVA allotment per .5 course to cover associated costs. The PTOE request may be denied if the anticipated course cost exceeds this amount.
Application Deadlines: No later than six weeks prior to the start of the course(s). Submit an application by the deadline each semester even if the class is considered a year-long course. See application process below for additional details.
Summer School Classes: A student who is currently open enrolled to BVA during the school year can attend summer school in their local district, if classes are available, seats are open, and the student meets eligibility requirements. If they choose to attend summer school in their local district, it does not have any impact on their current open enrollment status and they do not need to reapply for open enrollment. They do not need to apply for Part Time Open Enrollment to attend summer school in their local district. Course grades and credits will be transferred in the same manner as other transfer grades and credits from public or private schools.

Restrictions: No more than two courses may be taken at the same time under Part-Time Open Enrollment. BVA/MAPS will deny a PTOE course request if it would result in an undue financial burden to BVA/MAPS. Applications submitted/received after deadlines will NOT be approved by MAPS, no matter the reason.
