Biography

So, Who am I?

Hello, my name is Scott Sullivan. I am currently in my 17th year teaching, all but one of that in 7th or 8th grade classrooms. I have been teaching at Bridges for the last 4 years.

I'm originally from Taylorsville, Kentucky, just outside of the city of Louisville. This was a very small town and county, with a primary focus on farming at the time I grew up there. I graduated from Spencer County High School in 1992 in a class of 67, with 65 of which I went to First Grade with. I then completed my Bachelor's of Arts in History and Government at Centre College in 1996.

I did not start out as a teacher, and I have not always been a teacher. I originally started in the classroom in 2000 as a substitute teacher in the Jefferson County Public School system (110,000 students). With a break, I worked for 9 years in Jefferson County teaching both Language Arts and Social Studies. In 2005, my family and I made the decision to make a change and moved to Bluffton. I began teaching here in South Carolina at Whale Branch Middle School in a 7th Grade Language Arts classroom. I then transitioned to Jasper County, and spent 4 years at Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School teaching Social Studies.

I am married to my wonderful wife of 22 years, Amy, who is an insurance agent on Hilton Head, and have a daughter who is a Freshman at Francis Marion University (Go Patriots!) I have 4 dogs and 2 cats at home.

In my spare time, I like to read, play games on the Xbox system (no, I don't play with students!), go hiking, and cheer for the Cincinnati Bengals. I also am a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes and Atlanta Braves. I also like swimming and going to the beach.

My major weakness is Reese's Pieces.

I am excited for this year to begin and can't wait to work with everyone!
