All students will be working toward a 40 Book Challenge this year! They are tasked with reading 40 different books before the end of 4th grade. The books will be from various genres so the students practice how to read different types of books as well as explore to see what genres they may enjoy!
I have many books available in my classroom for students to read. They may also read books from home that they have not read before, check out books from our school media center, or read books from the Beaufort Public Library!
The paper copy of our recording chart will be in the back sleeve of their take home folder.
They is not a consequence if the students do not read all 40 books! Research tells us the more a child reads they better they will be at reading, so I encourage you to support and encourage your child in this challenge! I will be completing this challenge with them as a fun way to encourage reading.
Lexia
We will be using Lexia as a resource in our classroom. This is an online reading program that is based on the student's specific needs. I will offer classtime as time allows to work on Lexia. I encourage you to also allow them to work at home if needed.
Students will have a specific minute goal and a number of units they must meet in order to stay on track each week. Meeting these goals and progressing with earn them classroom rewards and will contribute to our monthly incentive.
There is a link to Lexia on the resource page of this website.
Once school is underway and we are practicing the daily routines and procedures with success, we will begin small group learning.
Small groups will be based on the skills your child needs to learn according to individual assessments.
We will use small printable booklets as well as various novels throughout the year.
Students will have work to complete as well as reading each book. Class time will be given to complete this work, but the student may also work on it at home if they choose to do so.
Novel work will be graded at the end of each novel as a summative assessment.
