Instructional Strategies

Screening of Film & Discussion: All films screened are discussed with particular issues & questions in mind. Most of class time is engaged in the viewing & discussion/analysis of film.

For All Projects:

Graphic organizers are available to help students organize their ideas and writing.

Backwards Planning is also a component of all projects, both analytic and creative. Projects are in multiple steps with advance due dates for students to plan ahead.

Analytic Projects: Students choose films to screen outside of class and visually analyze according to assignment parameters – genre, director, editing, etc. These parameters directly relate to ongoing units in the class.

Creative Projects: Students storyboard or script original ideas, or design scenarios in the style of a particular director or genre, or re-imagine an existing film with changes to story and structure. The parameters here also reflect ongoing units in the class.
