Year 11 Students
You have a number of options for you when you leave school:
Further Education Colleges
6th Form Schools or Colleges
Specialist Colleges (that focus on a particular subject)
Small providers that offer vocational training and personal development courses
Apprenticeship training providers
Details of open events are on the Post 16 Opportunities tab. Visit as many open events as you can, as well as exploring their websites for course details.
Higher Education
Check out the UCAS website for details of careers that require degrees. You can check the A-levels or equivalent required for course entry.
Work Experience
Work experience helps by:
Giving you a reality check - is the job what you thought it was? Is it right for you?
Provide evidence of your interest and motivation
A chance to meet potential employers and contacts (people who can help you in your career)
You will learn new skills, gain knowledge and experience
Contact Do-It , VInspired or local charities for volunteering opportunities, as well as speaking to friends and family to see if they can help. Remember, all experience is worthwhile as it helps you leaern more about what interests you. If you do enjoy the work, think about what aspects you like and equally, what you don't like about the job.

Skills
Assessment and Ability Tests - some employers (for example Rolls Royce) use these tests as part of their recruitment process. You can practice beforehand.
Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers. It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description oft he occupation. Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You are also select 'display the UK average' and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.
