Class Trip to Hank's Pumpkintown In Southampton

Our Second Grade students had a blast visiting Hank's Pumpkintown in Southampton. When we arrived to Pumpkintown students had the opportunity to climb and play on the handmade structures. We then headed to the Pumpkin Patch where we learned the growth of a pumpkin, from a seed to a fruit and all the important responsibilities of a farmer. Next, the students enjoyed a narrated wagon ride through the scenic farm, followed by a venture into the pumpkin patch to pick their own pumpkins. Last, the students had more free time to explore and enjoy Hank's Pumpkintown Playground.

Second Grade STEM Parachute Challenge

Second grade students were challenged to design and build a parachute that would slow down a cup as it falls to the ground. Students were exposed to vocabulary such as air resistance, revise, force, gravity and speed. Students learned that the greater the force of air resistance the slower the decent(speed) of the parachute. They also reflected on their design and thought about what worked well? What would they do differently as well as how their groups worked together.

Second Grade Mentos and Soda Experiment

Second grade had fun learning about the scientific method, what soda is made of and why/what is fizz, as well as the reaction between Coca Cola and Mentos! Building students background knowledge has been exciting in second grade this week!!
