Our Second Grade students had a blast visiting Hank's Pumpkintown in Southampton. When we arrived to Pumpkintown students had the opportunity to climb and play on the handmade structures. We then headed to the Pumpkin Patch where we learned the growth of a pumpkin, from a seed to a fruit and all the important responsibilities of a farmer. Next, the students enjoyed a narrated wagon ride through the scenic farm, followed by a venture into the pumpkin patch to pick their own pumpkins. Last, the students had more free time to explore and enjoy Hank's Pumpkintown Playground.
Last spring, students in Mr. House’s 7th grade English class and Ms. Hand’s sixth grade class became Newsday reporters, photographers and artists, completing the research and work that will be featured in the Kidsday section of Newsday from September 22 to September 27. Please look out for a total of five pages appearing that Saturday through Thursday, when Bridgehampton students will for the first time be featured as Kidsday’s Class of the Week. You’ll find, among their many engaging articles and illustrations, spotlights on local places and events of interest, recipes, a trip to the amazing Dan Flavin museum, a Debbie Cakes survey, and even a feature on Full House star Candace Cameron-Bure, who was interviewed by four lucky students--Dylan Fitzgerald, Scott Vinski, Alexis Davis and Kimberly Villa--at a new restaurant in Times Square, Opry City Stage. These four also sampled the Nashville-inspired menu while listening to live music, and reviewed their exciting experience for the paper. Read all about it!
First Edition of Student Poetry Written at the Watermill Center
This September, a collection of poems written by Bridgehampton high school students will be published electronically alongside photos of the objects that inspired them on both the school and Watermill Center websites. There will also be a limited number of hard copies available for purchase during the year. All proceeds from hard copy sales will benefit the new Bridgehampton Literary Arts Club, that will facilitate student participation in the esteemed national program Poetry Out Loud and embark on the ambitious endeavor of collecting student work in literary magazines, of which “Ekphrastic Poems” is a preview. Please contact Mr. House at thouse@bridgehampton.k12.ny.us for more information.
