Durante los últimos años, los cuerpos policiales y funcionarios escolares han estado lidiando con un aumento significativo en el número de amenazas escolares reportadas. Aunque algunos de estos informes son el resultado del aumento de la sensibilidad en la comunidad escolar, muchos más son el resultado de travesuras y comportamiento disruptivo. Hasta que la fuente y la naturaleza de tales informes sean determinados, a cada incidente se le da alta prioridad. La respuesta inicial y las investigaciones policiales requieren una extensa inversion en términos de recursos policiales y las operaciones de las instituciones educativas son sujetas a interrupciones significativas.

El propósito de esta carta es para recordarle a los estudiantes, padres y comunidad de la gravedad de esta situación. Las declaraciones o comentarios que parezcan estar amenazando a una escuela, estudiantes o miembros del personal serán manejados de la misma manera en que se tratan los comentarios sobre bombas y explosiones en nuestros aeropuertos. En otras palabras, con CERO TELERANCIA. El hecho de que la amenaza se hizo como un tipo de broma o chiste no va a negar la responsabilidad, el enjuiciamiento o detención de un individuo.

Las declaraciones hechas en voz alta sobre armas de fuego, tiroteos, explosivos, bombas, o cualquier otra amenaza hecha por escrito ya sea en graffiti, publicadas en cualquier tipo de plataforma de las redes sociales, o transmitidas electrónicamente a través del teléfono/fax/correo electrónico, etc. resultarán en una rápida y exhaustiva investigación. Cuando apropiado, los individuos responsables de estas amenazas serán detenidos y procesados en un juzgado penal. No bromee con su futuro.

First Edition of Student Poetry Written at the Watermill Center

This September, a collection of poems written by Bridgehampton high school students will be published electronically alongside photos of the objects that inspired them on both the school and Watermill Center websites. There will also be a limited number of hard copies available for purchase during the year. All proceeds from hard copy sales will benefit the new Bridgehampton Literary Arts Club, that will facilitate student participation in the esteemed national program Poetry Out Loud and embark on the ambitious endeavor of collecting student work in literary magazines, of which “Ekphrastic Poems” is a preview.
