Title 1
What is Title 1?
Title I Part A of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. The priorities of Title I are to:
Strengthen the core program in schools and provide academic and/or support services to low-achieving students at the preschool, elementary, middle, and high school levels;
Provide evidence-based programs that enable participating students to achieve the learning standards of the state curriculum frameworks;
Elevate the quality of instruction by providing eligible staff with substantial opportunities for professional development; and,
Involve parents/guardians of participating public and private school children as active partners in their children's education at school through open, meaningful communication, training, and, as appropriate, inclusion in decision-making processes.
Bridgewater-Raynham Schoolwide Title 1 Program
A schoolwide program permits an eligible school to use Title I, Part A funds in combination with state and local resources and most other federal education program funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school to raise the academic achievement of all the students. In B-R, Merrill Elementary School, Mitchell Elementary School, and LaLiberte Elementary School are identified as Title 1 schools.
What does B-R prioritize in our Title 1 Program?
Title 1 teachers to support the kindergarten, first grade, and second grade teachers in their literacy instruction through coaching, oversight of the district assessment plan for K-2 literacy, progress monitoring, and work in classrooms with teachers
Providing additional literacy resources above and beyond the curriculum (such as decodeable texts) to further support literacy development
Professional Development opportunities and stipends for committee work to enhance literacy instruction
