Giving Feedback: Pre-Recorded Presentations

The example feedback below is for the presentation embedded to the left. This is teacher-written feedback designed to help students respond to pre-recorded and digital video presentations. BHS faculty, staff, and students can continue to leave feedback for student projects through June 25.

"Your use of a new tool, Panopto, is impressive by itself. You created a professional-looking presentation in two versions — the one available through that site, and the video file you downloaded. I also commend your willingness to share your work with others through the site we're building to showcase these Senior Talks. It will help procrastinating students who attempt their own pre-recorded presentation, and it will help all students next year.

"The content is excellent. You have a straightforward position to argue, but that only makes the depth of information and insight more focused. It's a positive that you've chosen a scientific approach to the project. Your use of data is solid, and your slide construction is built capably around each set of details or insights. It's an impressive piece of work."

A Note on Valuing the Imperfect
Students were given the option of sharing their final projects. Those who chose this option should be commended for their insight and ingenuity — for the animated YouTube videos, the audio essays, the hybrid presentations that mix live beatboxing with pre-recorded demos.
But not every showcased project looks like that. That is a very good thing. When the work is imperfect, it is authentic. It is what a classroom space truly is — a creative space with the same desultory but encouraging work of any creative space.
Students giving feedback to peers know that collaboration is "the stuff of growth," and that constructive feedback is honest and ameliorative. All stakeholders should keep this in mind.
