  3. Benjamin Franklin - This outstanding link from the Franklin Institute Science Museum includes examples of Franklin's writings, his many inventions, and his contributions to American history as philosopher, statesman, economist, printer, scientist and inventor. Franklin was the "Quintessential" American of the 1700s.

Slave Narratives - As we study slavery and causes of the Civil War in the United States, check out this site which holds over 2,300 slave narratives and 500 black and white photographs of American slaves. These narratives were collected in the 1930s as part of a Federal Writers' Project and they are very emotional and moving.
