ACG'S STORY IN THE MEDIA
For many Canadians with mobility impairments, something as simple as joining a community garden can mean navigating inaccessible pathways, difficult water access, and plot designs that weren't built with their needs in mind. We wanted to change that.
So, when we retired our former dome garden, BPCG's gardeners started work to repair the old dome boxes to become an Accessible Circle Garden.
With the help of our community, we raised over $1000 in a house plant sale to start repairs on the garden. Winning an Awesome Ottawa Award afterwards helped us achieve the funds for a two day community work party to put all our repairs in place! It was a race against the snow to finish repairs before November.
By November 2025, we had:
Harvested the food grown in the temporary garden and donated it to local food banks.
Removed all of the old wood damaged by humidity from the dome garden
Emptied all of the garden beds of soil
Repaired all of the beds with fresh wood and screw plates
Refilled the beds with fresh soil
And made a plan for welcoming new gardeners to the Accessible Circle Garden in the spring.
Many thanks to Bridgehead Coffee and Life of Pie for feeding our gardeners and community members! We are indebted to all of the volunteers who came out to help us dig just because they wanted to see this garden built. You're the best.
