The Festival of the Arts 2022

Art Imitates Life

Message

We are delighted to welcome the Brent Community to the 2022 Annual Festival of the Arts with this year’s theme of REALISM. Our online art exhibition features works of art created by students from all grade levels enrolled in arts courses.

Such an exhibit fits well in the Brent curriculum. It allows students to reflect and respond to their own work as well as to work done by others and provides a great opportunity to show off their talent to parents, teachers and friends. An exhibition provides students with the opportunity to see their work come to life.

Art stirs emotions and expresses what is meaningful in our lives. Forms emerge from the acts that proceed. The careful observer will ponder the process of exploration of themes and techniques, experimentation, creativity and the concentration that went into developing each product. Our teachers will tell you that many students took on new and bold approaches, often working outside of their comfort zone to incorporate the theme of REALISM into unique and expressive ideas. These choices foster an awareness of the meaning behind the creative process and the decisions artists must make to convey an idea or message.

Brent art teachers provide us with some important background to better understand this year’s showcase: Our theme this semester is REALISM. This is an antithesis to the first semester theme of DREAMS. Art imitates life. We focused more on the representational aspect of art making. The students create drawings, paintings, three-dimensional and lens-based works based on what they encounter and objectively perceive everyday. They were inspired by the here and now, the mundane and the familiar.

Aside from the online exhibit, student work will also be installed on campus in the Atrium and the Fine Arts hallways on April 27.
