Prerequisite(s): None
Basics and introductory material, Art I will go over the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. At the conclusion of the course students will have mastered line, shape, color, value, texture and contrast. Students will be able to produce a fully finished drawing and have a basic mastery of graphite, colored pencils, watercolor paint, and charcoal.

Prerequisite(s): Art I
Art II would be a natural progression of Art I. It will go further into the mastery of the Art Elements with an extended focus on the Principles of Design. Students will master emphasis, balance, contrast, repetition, proportion and movement. Students will extend their knowledge of art mediums and have a basic understanding of acrylic paint, pastels, and mixed media. They will have mastered all of the mediums used from Art I, and the Elements of Art. Art II requires a portfolio review or a passed Art I course taken from the Brenham High School campus.

Painting is an upper level Art III course, and requires the prerequisite of passing Art I and II, or the completion of one year in a Brenham High School Art Class with a portfolio review. Painting will master watercolor and acrylic mediums and canvas preparation. Students will be able to produce a fully formed painting of every size and with each medium, which will include the elements and principles of art and design.

Drawing is an upper level Art III course, and requires the prerequisite of passing Art I and II, or the completion of one year in a Brenham High School Art Class with a portfolio review. Drawing will master graphite, ink, marker, pastel, charcoal and conte crayon mediums and drawing preparation. Students will be able to graph, transfer and live sketch. Students will be able to produce a fully formed drawing of every size and with each medium, which will include the elements and principles of art and design.

Sculpture is an upper level Art III course, and requires the prerequisite of passing Art I and II, or the completion of one year in a Brenham High School Art Class with a portfolio review. Sculpture will master handbuilding with coil and slab methods, glazing and firing. Students will be able to produce a fully formed sculpture of every size and with each every technique, which will include the elements and principles of art and design.

Prerequisite(s): Art I & II, Teacher Approval
Community Art is an upper level Art III course, and requires the prerequisite of passing Art I and II, or the completion of one year in a Brenham High School Art Class with a portfolio review. Community Art will master community art installations and murals. Students will be able to design large scale art, create art proposals, and be able to execute the preparations and clean up involved. Students will need to have the ability to be responsible in a community setting and have the ability to to behave in environments outside of the school.
This course will fill 2 periods of the student's schedule.

Prerequisite(s): Art I, II & Art III Level Course, Teacher Approval
AP Art is a college level course that will focus on a professional and fully formed art portfolio of 15 Art pieces. This class can include ANY 2D medium including digital media, photography, drawing, painting, printmaking and more. Each piece will have to be a mastered work of art, encompassing the elements and principles of art and design and a fully formed composition. The students will be able to verbally defend their artwork, and write an artist’s statement about their body of work. They will have a mastery of each art medium and style used, and fulfil each gap in knowledge to execute their portfolio. Students will submit their portfolio for review at the end of the year to the college board.
AP Art is a level IV Art course and requires three years in high school art as a prerequisite, or the completion of two years in a Brenham High School Art Class with a portfolio review. If you are coming from graphic design, digital media or photography course you will need a teacher recommendation from your CTE teacher of record.

AP Art is a college level course that will focus on a professional and fully formed art portfolio of 15 Art pieces. Each piece will have to be a mastered work of art, encompassing the elements and principles of art and design and a fully formed composition. The students will be able to verbally defend their artwork, and write an artist’s statement about their body of work. They will have a mastery of each art medium and style used, and fulfil each gap in knowledge to execute their portfolio. This course specifically is geared towards drawing mediums, and will only focus on specifically drawing geared mediums. Students will submit their portfolio for review at the end of the year to the college board.
