The calculation of class rank shall exclude grades in any distance learning course; any credit recovery course; summer school; or through credit by examination, with or without prior instruction.
Earning and Losing a Credit Guidelines
A student at any grade level enrolled in a high school course will earn credit for the course only if the final grade is 70 or above. For a two-part (two-semester, 1-credit course), the student’s grades from both halves (semesters) will be averaged and credit will be awarded if the combined average is 70 or above. If the student’s combined average is less than 70, the student will be awarded credit only for the half (semester) with the passing grade.
To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend the class at least 90 percent of the days it is offered. A student who attends fewer than 90 percent of the days the class is offered will be referred to the attendance review committee. The committee will determine whether there are extenuating circumstances for the absences and how the student can regain credit or a final grade.
Correspondence Courses
State-required credits for graduation may be earned through correspondence courses. Courses must be taken from the Extension Division of Texas Tech University. The student is responsible for fees and books required for correspondence courses.
Correspondence Courses for Initial Credit: A student may take a maximum of four (4) semesters (2 credits) through correspondence. Information for correspondence courses is available through the Counseling Center.
Correspondence Courses for Retrieval of Credit: Information for correspondence courses for retrieval of credit is available through the Counseling Center.
Grades earned in this manner are not included in the GPA and not used for ranking purposes nor do they replace grades earned during the school year on the AAR.
Credit By Exam (CBE)
Please see the Testing page for up to date Credit By Examination Information.
Credit Recovery
Summer school and credit recovery courses are offered as an option for students needing to regain course credit. They will be offered in an online format. Courses completed through Credit Recovery or Summer School will have a capped grade of 75 and are not used in the calculating high school grade point average (GPA) or rankings. Prior to registration counselor approval is needed to ensure that the correct courses are selected.
Junior High Courses
High school courses taken in junior high school will earn credit toward the 26 credits required for graduation, but will not be counted in the student's high school GPA. It is strongly suggested that students complete four (4) math credits in high school for college readiness.

Spanish 1 (1.0 Credit)
